The ASM Shared Governance Committee is seeking three (3) students to serve on the New Union Naming Committee.   The NUNC is responsible for selecting names for the new union building to be voted on by students this May.  It will be meeting at least twice: once the week of March 8th, and once the week of March 15th.  Applicants should be dependable, have strong communication skills, be willing and able to thoughtfully do some amount of work outside of these meetings.

Applicants should send a letter of interest and one-page resume to Melissa Hanley, Shared Governance Committee Chair.  Applicants must list all affiliations with the Wisconsin Union and the Wisconsin Union Directorate (WUD) in their materials.  Students not affiliated with the Wisconsin Union and/or WUD are encouraged to apply; membership in, or affiliation with, is not a requirement of the New Union Naming Committee.

Applications are due Friday February 26 by 10:00 pm.  Please direct applications and questions to hanley2@wisc.edu.

ENTER THE “NAME THE NEW UNION BUILDING” CONTEST

The Wisconsin Union and the Associated Students of Madison will partner to name the new South Campus Union due to open in Spring 2011. An open submissions process will begin Friday, February 12. Submissions will be accepted until Friday, March 19 March 12. All University students, faculty, staff, Union members and alumni are encouraged to send submissions to <namethatunion@gmail.com>. If a student submits the winning name he or she will receive a lifetime Union membership.

To maximize student input, after all submissions have been received, a student majority committee, comprised of student leaders from the Union and ASM, will review the submissions and create a short list of the top names. The short list will be forwarded onto Union Council, the Union’s student majority shared governance body, at the March 25 Council meeting. Union Council will approve a ballot that students will vote during the ASM Spring Elections (April 12-14). Chancellor Martin will approve the final name for the new Union.
